Level 1 vs Level 2 Chimney Inspections, Explained

Chimney inspections come in three levels, and paying for the right one saves you money. For most homeowners the choice is between Level 1 and Level 2.

Level 1: the routine annual check

A Level 1 inspection is for a chimney in regular use with no known problems. It’s included with a standard chimney sweep.

Level 2: the video inspection

A Level 2 adds a camera scan of the entire flue. It’s required before buying or selling a home, after a chimney fire, and any time you change fuels or appliances.

Buying or selling in South Elgin? A Level 2 inspection is the recognized standard for a real-estate transfer.

Level 3: for hidden hazards

Rarely needed, a Level 3 investigates concealed areas and may require removing part of the structure.
